For the second time in nine days, a house fire has claimed the life of a Gary resident - this time a 3-year-old girl. Janel Jackson was pronounced dead at 5:45 p.m. Sunday by Lake County coroner's office personnel at the Jackson home in the 2100 block of Chase Street.

The girl was the third to die in Gary as the result of a house fire this year.

Shirley Davis, 53, and Leon Davis, age 18 months, died in a house fire Jan. 29.
