The Independence Hill Conservancy District board voted 4-3 Wednesday night to fight the creation of a new sanitary district which would have authority over the current sanitary districts in Merrillville. Afraid they might lose control over their own district to the newly created Merrillville Sanitary District, the conservancy board directed their attorney to join a lawsuit already filed by the Merrillville Conservancy District.

That lawsuit, filed in January, alleges Merrillville illegally sought power over the existing sanitary districts.
