Andrew Jacobs Sr., a former congressman and the father of a current U.S. House member, died Thursday. He was 86. Jacobs, a former Marion Superior Court judge, died in his sleep at his Indianapolis home.

He was the father of 10th District Congressman Andrew Jacobs Jr.

Jacobs was elected to Congress in 1948 from the 11th District. He served as a member of the House Committee on Education and Labor and was chairman of the subcommittee on Democracy in Unions.

In 1950, Jacobs mounted an unsuccessful campaign for the Democratic Party's nomination for the U.S. Senate.
