Four years ago, the annual Fourth of July celebration in this south Porter County community was canceled for the first time since 1952.
That helped spark the movers and shakers of this town of 2,800 residents not only to keep the traditional event alive but to expand it from its former one-day format.
Last year, the event lasted five days and marked the town's 100th anniversary.
Even so, some people were concerned about the festival's future. That led to the formation of Leaders of Hebron Festivals Inc., which has cemented an ongoing Independence Day celebration.
