The swift demise of the Communist Party in the Soviet Union comes as sweet news to freedom-loving people.
After almost 75 years of iron-fisted rule, the party is fading away with only a whimper, cowered by the will of the Soviet people.
Mikhail Gorbachev finally realized what had to be done. After the failure of a last-ditch coup by hard-line party leaders, whom Gorbachev had selected to help run the country, it became apparent that a joint effort at reform wasn't going to work.
So the Soviet leader cleaned out his cabinet and then resigned as general secretary of the Communist Party ...
