Mark L. Tomes, former head of Purdue University's department of botany and plant pathology from 1969 to 1977, died Nov. 21 at St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center in Lafayette.
A resident of West Lafayette, Mr. Tomes was a Purdue faculty member and administrator from 1948 until his retirement in 1982. He was associate director of Purdue's agricultural experiment station from 1977 until he retired.
Before joining the Purdue faculty, Mr. Tomes was involved in the agricultural research section of Stokely-Van Camp Inc.
