Nine state scientists are currently taking ground water samples at about 60 homes in the area surrounding the Wheeler Sanitary Landfill in an ongoing effort to determine what has caused contamination of well water at some residences near the landfill.
Geologists and environmental scientists from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) are spending this week in Union and Portage townships in the Wheeler area checking ground water around the landfill, said Don Fitzpatrick of IDEM.
