Dennis Ray Roark had his chance Friday to say he was sorry.
Public defender Alex Woloshansky put the 26-year-old Gary man on the witness stand, told him to look the jury in the eye and explain why he killed his girlfriend's mother, his girlfriend and their two helpless children.
Roark mumbled about drugs and his mind snapping. Instead of remorse, he pleaded amnesia and found fault with his victims.
It took less than two hours for jurors, whom Deputy Prosecutor John Burke called the conscience of the community, to recommend Roark's execution for the four murders.
