Kirsten Johnson is a 14-year-old high school freshman.
She's slender and not what you'd call "athletic looking."
But looks can be deceiving. She already holds the Valparaiso High School swim record in the 200-yard freestyle, and is nearing records in two other events.
Some might say it's surprising a freshman could do so well after just a few weeks of high school.
While Johnson is new to the school, she isn't new to the sport. She's a veteran of seven years of competitive swimming.
And she's not the only area underclassman to make waves this young swimming season.
