How's ice fishing?
There were waves at Willow Slough Tuesday!
My records show that March 17 - St. Patrick's day - used to be considered an early ice-out date for the Slough. But this has certainly changed with recent mild winters.
"A man is going out in a boat right now," said Nancy Brandt, secretary at the Slough. "His name is Mike Peters, from Kankakee, Ill., and he fishes a lot here for bass."
A combination of mild temperatures and rain erased most signs of ice at the Slough by late Monday. But with the water still near freezing it would only take a few days of very cold weather to put "walking" ice back ...
