What does "kissing the hairy muzzle of a mouse," vitamin C and mom's chicken soup have in common? All three are alleged cures for the common cold.

The mouse "cure," fortunately, faded during the Roman Empire.

The soup and vitamin C are still popular, but the fact remains there is no magic pill or shot to cure the common cold.

Doctors can replace hearts, scan brain waves and pinpoint a genetic disorder before a baby is born, but they can't cure the culprit behind the sneeze, sniffle and cough.
