The disappearance of more than 250 dogs and cats in Indiana's Lawrence County in the past five months has prompted the Humane Society of the United States to offer a $1,000 reward for information to help authorities solve the mystery.
"It's almost as if a black hole has opened up and swallowed them up. And we have no clues, just a few suspicions," said Kathy Howe, operator of the Lawrence County Animal Shelter.
Howe said her shelter receives 10 to 12 calls a month on missing dogs. There are other calls about missing animals that turn up "one way or another."
