Porter County's taxpayers are aware of Nancy Harris Vaidik. She has been on the county's payroll since August 1980, shortly after she was graduated from Valparaiso University Law School.
But the people whose taxes finance Porter County government may not be so familiar with James J. Stankiewicz, her husband.
Stankiewicz is someone the Porter County taxpayers have a right to know. They are paying for the privilege.
Stankiewicz, 44, came to Northwest Indiana in the late 1960s after graduating from Bowling Green University in Ohio. He taught social science and economics at Wirt and Wallace schools in Gary.
