A hospice is not a building, but rather a way of caring for patients that are terminally ill.
Karen Rients stressed that statement recently regarding the establishment of a hospice in Jasper County. Rients, a registered nurse employed by the Home Health Care Agency of Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer, is the driving force that brought the idea of a hospice to reality.
Rients said she thought about the possibility of starting a hospice in late 1986. Throughout 1987, that idea was ever present on Rients' mind as she worked with patients needing the services of the Home Health Care ...
