Susan Bayh, wife of gubernatorial candidate Evan Bayh, told a group of Merrillville High School seniors Thursday that her husband believes convicted killer Paula Cooper should be executed.
The Democratic candidate said later in a telephone interview that it would be inappropriate for him to discuss Cooper's case. And contrary to statements by his wife, he said the next governor may not be deciding Cooper's fate.
The conversation at the school turned to the death penalty - and the Cooper case - when a teacher said that all but one of his students believes that the 17-year-old Gary girl on death row should be executed.
