As a result of testing positive for steroids, world-record holder Ben Johnson lost his Olympic gold medal in the 100 meters.
Such drug abuse also cost him more than $1 million in endorsements and, more importantly, could cost him his health and perhaps even his life, eventually.
Northwest Indiana high school coaches contacted expressed shock, dismay and disgust with Johnson's situation.
But all agreed their athletes are warned to avoid steroids, and other drugs and alcohol as well. All said posters warning of drug abuse are in their lockerrooms.
