Sharon M. Combs said life hasn't been easy for her and her son, but she used to think they were better off than her ex-husband. The Lake County prosecutor's office is charging her former husband, Cachun Combs, 34, of Gary, with failing to support their son and committing perjury to conceal his income.

Combs is expected to surrender today on the felony counts. His bond is set at $15,000.

Sharon Combs said she is a single mother raising 10-year-old Cachun Combs Jr. on her bank teller's salary. She said they have the basic necessities of life, but she is unable to save money or buy new cars.
