High levels of toxic chemicals are threatening Lake Michigan, according to a report, released Tuesday, whose authors called for citizen action to restore the lake as an economic and environmental asset.
The report, "Cleaning up Lake Michigan - A Citizens' Agenda for Action" was issued by Great Lakes United, the Lake Michigan Federation and other citizens groups.
The findings and recommendations were the outgrowth of a Lake Michigan conference April 16 in Michigan City attended by 70 leaders of conservation, labor, environmental and community interest groups.
