Article: HEAT, VALVE SUSPECTED IN TANKER AMMONIA LEAK

A possibly faulty valve, in addition to high temperatures, may have been a factor in the leak Sunday of anhydrous ammonia from a tanker truck about 1 1/2 miles east of here, officials said Monday. The leak forced the evacuation of 10 people from the area for about two hours.

Indiana State Police Master Trooper Richard Graeber said Monday no malfunctions were found on the tanker, except for a possibly faulty ventilating valve. No citations were issued.

"We think the vent opened up and didn't close back," Graeber said.
