Warmer weather has brought fishermen in wholesale numbers to shallow J.C. Murphey Lake at the Willow Slough Fish and Wildlife Area near Morocco, and fish have been cooperating pretty well. Lorrie Swartz, boat rental clerk at the Slough, said that although bluegills had not yet started to spawn, they were accessible in shallow water, namely the Mormon Hill area.

Last week, 800 fishermen brought in 1,400 bluegills. An unidentified fisherman had the top stringer with 55 nice 'gills.
