The annual summer festival here known as Frontier Days that begins Friday will have extra special meaning this year. The unincorporated village of Fair Oaks is celebrating its 100th birthday.

Admission to the festival is free.

The festival officially opens at 5 p.m. Friday a flag-raising ceremony at Union Park and will continue there through Sunday. Other events scheduled for Friday include a pork chop dinner from 5 to 6:30 p.m., the band Yesterday's Child featuring music from the '50s and '60s from 7 to 10 p.m., a glamourous hands contest at 8 p.m. and then a Mr. Legs contest.
