Many Northwest Indiana waterfowl hunters are confused about steel shot, now required at waterfowl hunting sites. Because steel shot is relatively new, there appears to be a lot of misinformation on the subject.
Steel shot was finally mandated after much research proved that millions of ducks die each year after ingesting spent lead shot as "grit."
By 1991, the U.S. Department of Interior will require hunters to use steel shot for all waterfowling in the United States. Most states have already adopted the steel shot rule.
