There are so many calendars in stock at A Clean Well-lighted Place for Books in Cupertino, Calif., that not all of them can be displayed at once. ''We just don't have room," says Ann Seaton, who's been buying calendars for the bookstore the last three years. Her purchases this year are selling well - with cartoonist Gary Larson's Far Side collection leading the pack, as it does nationwide.
The old days of taking the family pharmacist's free calendar and putting it up on the kitchen wall are long gone. Says the calendar industry: Long live the new era.
