Article: Porter summit to boost tourism at Dunes park

Uniquely situated on the southern shore of Lake Michigan, Porter County has an environmental gem in the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. According to the National Park Service, the Dunes, with about 1.8 million visitors in 2004, ranks 37th of its 353 national parks in attendance.

That ranking is an opportunity that the Porter County Convention, Recreation and Visitor Commission has decided to take stock of as the commission celebrates its 20th year. It will embark on a precedent-setting journey to capitalize on its most important natural assets.
