Article: Check 21 causes problems

oncerned about Check 21, the new federal banking law that helps banks deduct money more quickly from consumers' accounts, but does nothing to speed up the processing time for checks deposited by consumers. While I appreciate the banks' need for efficiency, and believe Check 21 will help banking fast-forward into the future, I have received numerous consumer complaints about bounced checks, as Check 21 has eliminated the "float time" between the time a consumer writes a check, and when the money must be in the account to cover that check.
