Shiitake mushrooms grow on 6-pound blocks of oak sawdust. The blocks, impregnated with the shiitake mushrooms spore, produce three or four crops of mushrooms before they are discarded. Mushrooms, including shiitakes, have been found to be good for you.

This could be a kid's worst nightmare: Thanks to findings from scientists at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, moms and dads have more proof that eating fungus is, indeed, good for you.
