A New-Jersey based bond company has solicited bids for a "completion contractor" to help resurrect the stalled Lake County Jail expansion project in Waukegan.
Last month, The Lake County Public Building Commission found the project's original general contractor, Chicago-based UBM, in default of its contract for not paying subcontractors hired for the project.
County officials said the county paid $1 million to UBM to pay subcontractors for work done in October and November, and that UBM instead apparently used the money to pay contractors on other jobs.
The jail expansion is now more than two months behind schedule.
