Members of the Lake County Board of Health would be paid for the first time under a proposal approved by Lake County Board committees this week.
Although the issue has been studied and rejected in the past, officials said board members, especially board President Michael Waxman, have been putting significant time into Health Board matters and should be compensated.
"In the past I didn't support it, but I do now," said Lake County Health Department Executive Director Dale Galassie. "In the post-9/11 world, public health is significantly busier than it used to be, and the president puts in quite a bit of time."
