Members of the U.S. team celebrate Sunday after winning the 40th Walker Cup Match. It's the first title for the U.S. since 1999.

WHEATON -- Jeff Overton lagged his birdie putt to inches on the 18th hole at Chicago Golf Club, touching off a raucous celebration as the U.S. reclaimed the Walker Cup. It was quite a turnaround from the scene at the 18th green from the previous 45 minutes. After three straight birdies on the closing hole had stolen an extra 1 1/2 for Great Britain and Ireland and kept the visitors' hopes alive on a thrilling Sunday afternoon in Wheaton, the last thing U.S. captain Bob Lewis wanted to see was the decisive match come to the 18th.
