Article: Trading spaces breathes life into living room

This is the second column I've written from a new location that had been neglected ever since we moved into a newly built house in Batavia nine years ago. Sure, the weekly violin lesson was held in this room, and if you wanted a quiet space to take a telephone call or read a book, well, this was the place. It also boasts the best patch of carpeting in the house.

For the most part, however, our formal living room was like that second downtown bridge in St. Charles -- it saw little traffic. All the household action took place in the kitchen and adjoining family room, which has the glowing hypnotic draw of the television.
