After two years and more than $200,000 in testing, repairs and replacements, the Indiana Dunes State Park Nature Center has been given a clean bill of health. Finally.
The beleaguered building, which fell victim to overzealous woodland creatures and their byproducts, began giving park officials problems back in December 2003. A park naturalist, who worked in the building, came down with a skin rash.
In February 2004 park officials contracted with Americo Inc. which tested the building and found bacteria/mold and mouse allergens, according to a February 2005 park report.
