 Pick their spots: Randle El, veteran QB on short list CHICAGO - For a while, it was starting to look like Bears general manager Jerry Angelo might get his wish.
"I would like free agency to happen after the draft," Angelo had said last weekend. "The union, obviously, would like free agency to come before the draft."
NFL free agency got pushed back a full week because of the elongated collective bargaining talks but began at 11:01 p.m. central time Thursday.
The Bears begin free agency saying they'll take a conservative approach, but they're among the top 10-15 teams in terms of money available to spend under a salary cap which now could hit $102 million.
