James C. Shelton, 80, died Dec. 13 after a long illness at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in North Chicago.

Mr. Shelton was born Jan. 5, 1925 and grew up in the hills of Missouri, where he hunted and fished, and became an avid lifelong fisherman.

He was a soldier in World War II, going ashore on Omaha Beach during the invasion of Normandy. After 58 days of battle, he was wounded near St. Lo, France, and received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and other decorations. He spent the next three years in a hospital as a result of his injuries.
