The Hotel Orrington will strive for upper echelon status when it reopens in October, featuring several new restaurants and a lobby bar that should make the hotel "the place to be seen in downtown Evanston," the new general manager said in an interview last week.
Joseph Violi, recently named general manager of the 269-room hotel, formerly known as the Omni-Orrington, is working mainly out of an office on the 13th floor of the Bank One building these days, while the hotel, a block removed at 1710 Orrington Ave., is in the midst of a $22-million renovation.
