Article: Helping community Kiwanis Club makes a difference in residents' lives

Upon entering the doors of St. Mark Lutheran Church last Thursday, local residents were immediately greeted by the enticing aroma of pancakes browning on the griddle and sausage sizzling in a skillet.

Inside the Lindenhurst church's kitchen, members of the Kiwanis Club of Lindenhurst/The Lakes Area served breakfast as they prepared to celebrate the National Day of Prayer.

"I think it's just a way of reaching out to the community," Phil Rovang, the club's president, said of the event. This was the Kiwanis Club's ninth annual prayer breakfast, which included prayers offered up by three local clergy members in honor of soldiers serving overseas, the nation's leaders and the local community.
