Article: Dist. 23 cuts two bus routes

The board of Prospect Heights School District 23 decided by a 4 to 3 vote to cut two bus routes that parochial students use to get to St. Alphonsus School.

More than 50 students ride on the two bus routes, Superintendent Greg Guarrine said, and the district has been providing this service for more than 25 years.

School District 23, which currently faces a $1.2 million budget shortfall, expects to save about $20,000 from the move. The two bus routes cost just under $40,000, but the state reimburses some of that each year - last year, it was $19,239, Guarrine said. St. Alphonsus, at 411 N. Wheeling Road in Prospect Heights, is just across the road from the district's eastern boundary.
