Skokie Village Trustees on April 1 approved in a 6-1 vote a special use permit for a child day-care center in downtown Skokie despite objections from nearby business operators.
The Swift Child Care Center is making a move from 8732 Bronx Ave. in the west Dempster Street commercial area because the entire block is scheduled for redevelopment within the next year, officials said.
"The owners must have a new location ready for operation prior to the loss of their current space, which could happen later this year," said Economic Development Coordinator Tom Thompson.
