Article: Winnetka Park District marks its centennial

The story of how the Winnetka Park District came to exist may not rival the well known rags-to-riches tale of Horatio Alger, but there's no denying its beginnings were truly humble.

On Feb. 4, the park district will kick off a year-long celebration to commemorate its 100th birthday with the opening of an exhibit at its administrative offices, 510 Hibbard Road.

Cake and refreshments will be served to anyone who attends.

"It's sort of like a big birthday party for us," said Parks Director Liza McElroy.

Park Board President Mary Garrison went a step further, calling it a "celebration of past and future."
