Article: Park district plans garage despite poll

Winnetka Park District officials this week said they were pushing ahead with plans to build a new storage garage, estimated at $2 million, despite a call from the community to ferret out a cheaper alternative.

Parks Director Liza McElroy said an architect would be hired this month to design the building, which would replace the outdated garage tucked along the corner of Pine and Hibbard streets.

McElroy called the $2 million price tag, included in a recent community survey, a weak estimate at best and said the long-desired project was still two years away.
