Article: Coyotes on North Shore eating cats, evading traps

Coyotes have continued to prowl the North Shore, mauling pet dogs and cats and evading attempts by local police to capture them.

In Glencoe, the wily coyote has likely killed six pet cats in the past month. Meanwhile, complaints of wild or feral cats plummeted from 55 in 2004 to just two calls this year, said Katie Sweeney, Glencoe's animal control officer. Sweeney said several cat carcasses have been discovered around town.

In Northfield last week, a resident's pet boxer was attacked, said police officials, singling a coyote as the likely culprit. A terrier was attacked and killed there in June.
