Article: Garner steps up to new role as trustee

Ask 10-year-old Myles Garner what his dad, Greg Garner, does on the Gurnee Village Board and you'll get a funny, but honest, answer.

"He talks a lot and helps the mayor."

Myles is right. He's also learning the issues dad "talks a lot" about are important to the community, and his position as the village's first African-American trustee is historic.

Garner was appointed trustee Sept. 12 and will serve the remainder of the term Kristina Kovarik left to become mayor. If Garner chooses, he can seek election in 2007.
