Ronald G. Wiegand, 75, of Lake Forest and Naples, Fla., died March 2.

Mr. Wiegand was a graduate of Arlington Heights Township High School, MIT with a Bachelor of Science degree in quantitative biology and a Masters of Science degree in chemical biology. He graduated from Emory University with a Ph.D in basic health sciences, and the University of Chicago Business School with an MBA.

At Emory, he was the first person to earn a doctor of philosophy degree in the field of basic health sciences, which embraced five areas of medical science: anatomy, bacteriology, biochemistry, physiology and pharmacology.
