Article: Rental housing gets support

The Rental Housing Support Program Act (Senate Bill 75) was passed by the General Assembly and will affect all real estate recording in the recorder of deeds offices throughout the state.

Beginning Aug. 1, all real estate recordings will be subject to a $10 surcharge.

The surcharge will go toward providing rental subsidies for families unable to secure affordable rental housing. The program is expected to assist 4,000 to 5,000 families in securing affordable housing and improve their quality of life and employability. In addition, the children of these families should improve academically by attending school regularly in their respective communities, state leaders note.
