Article: Local activist Berj Tashjian dies at 94

Berj Tashjian, artist, architect, poet and thorn in the side of Northbrook government, died March 30 in Glenbrook Hospital. He was 94.

Tashjian, a 39-year village resident, was a regular irritant to Northbrook village board members, who often heard his polite and courtly but nevertheless stinging criticisms on various matters, including design of Northbrook's Village Hall and library additions.

One of his most recent targets was last year's call by Village President Mark Damisch to ask voters' opinion on whether to use condemnation powers to spur redevelopment in the downtown.-
