A rose by any other name is still a rose, but chocolate roses sold at Plum Grove Junior High School smell (and taste) sweeter because the proceeds are going to the American Red Cross tsunami relief efforts.
"We always do a chocolate rose sale," said Deborah Humpal, a teacher at the District 15 school in Rolling Meadows with students from Hoffman Estates, Inverness, Palatine and Rolling Meadows. "It's a fun thing to do for the Student Council to help pay for the dance in the spring."
But rather than simply donating money to tsunami relief in addition to doing the sale, Humpal said, students donated the fund-raiser's proceeds to the survivors of the Asian natural disaster instead.
