Article: Vernon Hills Officer Friendly retires

Throughout his career in law enforcement, two days have been important to Vernon Hills Police Officer Kim Christenson: the day he began duty as a sworn officer and the day he would retire after a successful career.

On Friday, Christenson will retire from the department after 28 years.

"It's a very, very bittersweet time for me," he said.

In fact, just talking about his retirement has him a bit misty-eyed, he said.

"This is a wonderful village," he said. "It's a great police department. These co-workers are family."
