Article: Northeast corner gets nod for clock tower

Three votes and several discussions later, a committee of local residents has a specific location dedicated for its clock tower.

Antioch Trustees voted Monday night 4-3 to place the 40-foot-tall clock tower on the northeast corner of Orchard and Main streets in the heart of downtown Antioch. Mayor Taso Maravelas, who earlier in the meeting appeared to be leaning against that location, cast the tie-breaking vote.

Trustees Dorothy Larson, Scott Pierce and Mary Turner voted for an amended resolution to place the clock tower in that spot. Trustees Bob Caulfield, Larry Hanson and Barbara Porch voted against it, stating they would rather wait until the completion of the Route 83 corridor study.
