Article: Levy Center sign draws complaints

City officials went to great pains during the design of the new Levy Senior Center, working with architects to create a facility that would blend in with Robert James Park where it is located.

But Lewis Koch, who lives across the street from the center, on the 300 block of Dodge Avenue, says one aspect of the project -- a neon electric sign board that was placed in front of the building earlier this year -- belongs elsewhere.

Koch appeared before the Evanston City Council last week to ask aldermen to do something about the flashing neon sign that he says gives the area a "42nd Street brothel look."

Koch said he has no quarrel with the new Levy Center building, feeling officials did good ...
