Article: Des Plaines 'jewel' goes endangered

The Des Plaines Theater has placed fourth on the Landmarks Preservation Council of Illinois' "Top 15" list of the most endangered Chicago-area structures.

"What puts the old vaudeville house on that list is the fact that it is architecturally very important. What is most important about it is its terra cotta facade. With retail on the first floor and offices on the second, virtually, the structure holds that major corner of Des Plaines. In fact, it is one of the most defining elements of downtown Des Plaines," said David Bahlman, president of the Landmarks Preservation Council of Illinois.
