Article: Old apartment building declared uninhabitable

An old apartment building near the downtown business district of Mundelein has been declared "unfit for human habitation" by the village and the building ordered to be vacated.

Mundelein officials say they have found numerous building code violations with the building at 534 N. Seymour Ave., such as rotting walls and stairs, broken windows and holes in the roof. Upon advice of village staff, the village board last week ordered the building to be declared uninhabitable and placarded and any occupants given 30 days notice to vacate the property.

At one time, the building used to be the central hotel in town and is one of the oldest structures in Mundelein, dating back to the late 1800s. ...
